Clean Skin Gently
Most doctors recommend that people with acne gently wash
their skin with a mild cleanser, once in the morning and once in the
evening and after heavy exercise. Some people with acne may try to stop
outbreaks and oil production by scrubbing their skin and using strong
detergent soaps and rough scrub pads. However, scrubbing will not improve
acne; in fact, it can make the problem worse. Patients should ask their
doctor or another health professional for advice on the best type of
cleanser to use. Patients should wash their face from under the jaw
to the hairline. It is important that patients thoroughly rinse their
skin after washing it. Astringents are not recommended unless the skin
is very oily, and then they should be used only on oily spots. Doctors
also recommend that patients regularly shampoo their hair. Those with
oily hair may want to shampoo it every day.
Avoid Frequent Handling of the Skin
People who squeeze, pinch, or pick their blemishes risk
developing scars or dark blotches. People should avoid rubbing and touching
their skin lesions.
Shave Carefully
Men who shave and who have acne can test both electric
and safety razors to see which is more comfortable. Men who use a safety
razor should use a sharp blade and soften their beard thoroughly with
soap and water before applying shaving cream. Nicking blemishes can
be avoided by shaving lightly and only when necessary.
Avoid a Sunburn or Suntan
Many of the medicines used to treat acne can make a person
more prone to sunburn. A sunburn that reddens the skin or suntan that
darkens the skin may make blemishes less visible and make the skin feel
drier. However, these benefits are only temporary, and there are known
risks of excessive sun exposure, such as more rapid skin aging and a
risk of developing skin cancer.
Choose Cosmetics Carefully
People being treated for acne often need to change some
of the cosmetics they use. All cosmetics, such as foundation, blush,
eye shadow, and moisturizers, should be oil free. Patients may find
it difficult to apply foundation evenly during the first few weeks of
treatment because the skin may be red or scaly, particularly with the
use of topical tretinoin or benzoyl peroxide. Oily hair products may
eventually spread over the forehead, causing closed comedones. Products
that are labeled as noncomedogenic (do not promote the formation of
closed pores) should be used; in some people, however, even these products
may cause acne.
Herbal and Mineral Acne Treatment Aids Make Some Changes, Help Yourself!
The vast majority of acne treatments fall under the heading of “herbal” acne treatments. The reason is because of the lack or regulation
for herbal products. This can be very frustrating to the general consumer, because it is impossible to tell which herbal treatment will
work to stop acne, and which ones will do very little at all.
Of every herbal treatment available, there are only 2 that are currently proven to stop acne.
Tea tree oil will help get rid of acne,
and so will green tea cream.
Tea tree
oil is an oil derived from one tea tree plant that is unique to Australia. For several hundred years it was touted as a cure all,
until penicillin was introduced to fight bacteria. However, tea tree oil has seen a recent revival due in part to study conducted in 1990
that proved it is as effective in treating acne as 5% benzoyl peroxide. Furthermore, it had none of the side effects that benzoyl peroxide does.
Green tea cream has been validated more recently, at the 2003 American Academy of Dermatology conference. It was proven that
green tea is as
effective in treating acne as a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution. Though the study has not been corroborated yet, it demonstrated that there is
another herbal treatment besides tea tree oil.
These are some of the acne medications
acne medications proven to work. For those who are experiencing acne, any of the aforementioned treatments would be well
worth trying.
One might think oil might be the last
thing the body might need but this is simply not true. We have seen skin conditions clear with the proper diet balanced with
fish oil and a
multivitamin.
Acne is not all about what the body has too much of but more what the body has too little of.
Selenium
is a mineral antioxidant that will help minimized the damage of ultraviolet lights. Researches show that it might even
aid in skin cancer prevention. Good sources of selenium include tuna, wheat germ, sesame seeds, nuts, broccoli, Brussels sprouts,
mushroom and whole grains.
Zinc
is for boosting the immune system and promoting optimum health. Zinc can be found in eggs, seafood, turkey, pork, whole grains,
nuts and mushrooms. This trace mineral helps maintain collagen and elastin fibers that give skin its firmness, helping to prevent sagging
and wrinkles. It also links together amino acids that are needed for the formation of collagen -- essential in wound healing.
Vitamin E
to protect your cells against free radicals. This is a powerful antioxidant that helps slow the aging of skin cells and promote
healthy skin. A powerful antioxidant, it protects your cells against the effects of free radicals, which are potentially damaging by-products
of the body’s metabolism. Foods rich in vitamin E include almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, broccoli, wheat germ, peanuts and vegetable oils.
Vitamin C
for collagen maintenance. Best sources are citrus fruits and juices, slow cantaloupe, strawberries, tomato sweet peppers and green peas.
Choose foods with plenty of B vitamins like
B-2 and B-3.
These foods convert calories into energy for metabolism and are components of
enzymes that maintain normal skin function. The best sources for these are green leafy vegetables, lean meats, eggs, avocados, fish,
brewer’s yeast, whole grains and peanuts.
Choose foods rich in
vitamin A
. Naturally occurring vitamin A or retinol is commonly found in
fish oils
fish oils, dairy products and liver.
Vitamin A found in plants is called
beta-carotene
and is commonly found in yellow/ orange fruits and vegetables like carrot and cantaloupe.
This is essential for the maintenance and healing of epithelial tissues, with skin being the largest expanse of epithelial tissues we have.
This diet includes plenty of dark orange (carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squash) and dark green (broccoli, spinach, kale) vegetables -- all
of which are high in vitamin A.
Not only do the above foods help and even eliminate Ance but fruits such as Apples, Apricots, Banana, Cucumber, Lemons, Orange,
(orange juice paste can be is an effective remedy for pimples and acne. It can also be used for scar and blemish removal), Strawberry
(strawberry can be used for conditioning and skin toning treatment. They are rich in salicylic acid an ingredient found in many
commercial acne creams and thus are the best treatment for troubled or teenage skin).
