Aerobics are traditionally recognized as exercises for women but actually cover a broad range of cardiovascular activities designed for anyone. In fact aerobics by definition is Vigorous exercises designed to increase the body's heart rate and oxygen intake. With that being the goal of fitness buffs and people trying to lose weight, it is easy to see that you don't have to put on you tights and attend an aerobics class. Although it is suggested that in doing any aerobic exercises it is good to be continuous for at least 20 minutes. At that mark your body will now be dipping into its stored fat for energy. Listed below are a few tips to get your motor running.

  • Choose the stairs rather than the elevator whenever possible.
  • Park your car toward the rear of a parking lot to increase your walking distance to the office, mall entrance or school.
  • When taking a bus, taxi or subway, exit one stop or one block early and walk the rest of the way.
  • Rather than going out to lunch, pack a heart-healthy lunch and use your break times to take short walks.
  • Take your dog for longer walks. It will help both your hearts!
  • Take up gardening or fix-it-yourself projects that require movement and light lifting.
  • Turn off the TV and discover activity-based hobbies
So whether you are already attending an organized aerobics class with an instructor or simply desire to broaden your understanding of aerobic exercise, these tips will help you take advantage of the benefits aerobic activity offers.
